Karnataka, particularly Bangalore and Mysore, is the silk hub of India and as such Karnataka silk sarees are its traditional costume. However, the different drapes of sarees make these sarees unique. The Coorgi style of draping a saree in Karnataka involves tying the pleats in the rear instead of the front and a small portion of the pallu is placed over the shoulder. Mysore silk sarees are made with lustrous zari and rich silk. The extraordinary sheen of the fabric and the purity of the zari make these saree an elegant women dress. The Kornadu saris are a mix of cotton and silk. The Konrad sarees are woven with a blue cotton yarn and silk yarn in several colors other than blue. The motifs at border are varied and the body of the sari has checked or striped patterns. They are mostly used as daily casual wear sarees. The handloom Irkal saris have the beautiful Kasuti embroidery on them. Kasuti embroidery is a special craft practiced mainly in Uttara Kanara district or North Kanara district of Karnataka. The motifs on Irkal saris include architectural designs, cradle, elephant, squirrel among others. The Mysore crepe silk sarees are used as office wear sarees due to their light-weight, and easy to care nature

The dressing patterns of the large number of tribal that form an important part of the beautiful state of Karnataka is permeated with reference and commentaries from their colorful attire. With men basking in wearing lungi worn beneath the shirt and neck sported by the muffler. The women with strongly imbibed culture hang on sarees and look traditional

The Kodagu people contributing to the diversity of Indian attire have their own distinct way of dressing. The men dressed in their native costume looks appealing, resplendent with swords and daggers, ornamental sashes, gold trimmed turbans and tunics or black robes for special occasions like festival or weddings

Women falling prey to sarees, with the back adorned with pleats, pallu pierced on the shoulder and the fringe falling to the front. They put on decorative headscarves on formal occasions

The combined confluence of the orient and the occident attire makes an even better city of Bangalore. Bangalore is increasingly developing into education hub and as a result there is a concourse of students from all parts of India and world that has changed the complexion of the dressing patterns of the state

The transformations reflects from the changed dressing sense of ladies who have also been influenced by the north Indian attire like salwar suits and other western attire. The girls are now fond of wearing salwar-khameez and churidars with the traditional frock and langa dhavani getting a setback. The elders however continue in the same vein preferring dhoti and saree

Mysore Silk Saree
Every Indian woman desires to wear a Mysore silk saree. Mysore silk sarees are very popular sarees of South India. Rich Mysore silk sarees can be selected in a variety of color combinations and prints. The traditional Mysore silk sarees may soon be the next product which would put Karnataka on the world map. It will soon become as good as a patented product

Mysore silk is one of the most popular and finest and purest forms of silk. Mysore silk is a famous variety of silk made in Mysore and Bangalore in Karnataka. Known for its extraordinary quality and permanence of luster, it is an integral part of the Karnataka's culture. In this region, people always wear some kind of silk while participating in a ritual. Mysore silk draws its fame from the purity of the silk, its lustre, softness and richness of its natural colour which gave it precedence over all other silks

The weight and the content of gold or silver thread used mainly in the intricate border and the pallau or the headpiece determine the price of the sarees. A saree usually weighs between 400 and 600 grams (15-21 ounces). The silk is dyed using natural pigments and woven into intricate but, subtle patterns featuring motfis of birds or fruits. The painstaking production process by the weavers ensures that every aspect of the saree is perfect
